Hi ladies on Sunday I will have been bleeding for a fortnight this now seems to be a regular event and seems like I only get a week or so with no bleeding. I take daily asprin is this normal??? I have a coil fitted the copper kind - no hormones and I have cervical erosion so I am prone to bleeding and go for 6 monthly colposcopy / biopsy's just to keep check nothing sinister is occuring next one is the end of the month.
Is this something any of you have experienced?? I'm thinking the asprin is the cause I always had bad/heavy periods but not two weeks long it is such a pain and some days I feel absolutely whaked and think maybe I go a bit anaemic if that is possible the other day I felt like I had sleepy sickness could just about keep my eyes open????
Just wondering because if it's the asprin I supposed ill have to grin and bare it however if it is not something any of you ladies have experienced maybe I will have to look at getting a different kind of coil or some lazer treatment??? Any suggestions, advice??
Hope that isn't too much information just wanted to give the full picture.

Hi Marie...I think you should go to your GP, maybe you need a different coil as you have said and to ask about the aspirin. I believe you can have your cervical erosion cauterized (spelling?? )
No wonder you are feeling so tired and drained....maybe your GP could refer you to a gynaecologist or are you already referred?. I was told the coil can make you bleed more if you are prone to heavy periods.
I suffered from endometriosis so can sympathise with bad/heavy periods, since my SAH have not had any
but...am now menopausal.
Hope that helps.

Thankfully Marie, I have not had any of these problems, but any prolonged bleeding of any kind should mean an immediate port of call to gp and he/she should make the decision to refer you any further. If any difficulty in obtaining an appointment whizz along to your nearest A&E dept.
Blood is your lifeline and any loss can lead to all sorts of problems and complications.
Thanks Tina for responding, c'mon the rest of the lady members help and advice needed here please!!!!
Take care
Colin

Yep Im already refered thats why i go for the colposcopy / biopsy every 6 months but just wondered if the asprin could be the cause of prolonged periods and it is just something to put up with?? Roll on menopause Tina LOL!!! Thanks for responses I might have a look at my diet and up my iron rich foods and see if that helps with the lethargy. Going to gynae doctor next week so will ask her re: coil change I think there is a hormone loaded one that is safe for stroke patients to use think she mentioned it last time with the hormone that is ok not the ones the pill have??
Phoebe is a coil baby (mri scan probably moved it!!) LOL I would be tired if I had another baby
Probably twins knowing me!! Sometimes think my body is conspiring against me??
Thanks

Hi Marie,
I'm so sorry that you're suffering from Menorrhagia (Heavy periods) it can be so distressing and painful, bless you, poor you.
An IUD Coil, can sometimes cause heavy periods, however, a special hormone-releasing device can actually treat heavy periods, so it depends which you have.
Blood thining drugs, like Aspirin, as you know intefere with blood clotting, like the drug Wafarin. So therefore, if you take any of these medications, they maybe a side affect to having heavier periods.
Marie, if I were you I'd ask the next time you visit your G.P. for a blood test to check for Anaemia, becuase it may prove that you don't have enough iron in your blood stream, which maybe the cause of your tiredness, due to your heavy periods.
I'd also advise taking a note of when your periods are always happening, like having a Diary, and showing your G.P. this, because it confirms that you are taking this seriously, and it confirms/gives your G.P. a more complete picture of what you are going through.
Sorry for going on, hope this helps. Good luck hunny.
Hugs,
